Session #49 (100% fiction)

Ok this session entry is basically fictional.
It did not happen.
But, after talking to the group, this is a possibility of what might have happened had we not just stopped gaming in the middle of round #22...

Ok we last left our heroes in a very bad situation in the midst of combat round 22.
World Eater: 50’ tunneled through the ceiling. Half of its body length is now hidden inside the tunnel.
Krieg & Thunderclease prepare for an escape. They drop anything not of immediate value to lighten their load.
Invistis wants Krieg dead. He’s even willing to sacrifice something for it. He uses his Wish spell to create a Rod of Cancellation.

Round 23:
World Eater: 55’ in.
Krieg and Cleez delay to wait for Invistis’s action.
Invistis flies to the Prismatic Sphere and uses the Rod of Cancellation to destroy the sphere.
Cleez grabs onto Krieg as Krieg flies up and over the hordes towards the northern hallway.

Round 24:
World Eater: 60’
Invistis casts another Maximized Dispel Magic at Krieg (yes, he had two of them memorized). This causes Krieg and Cleez to float down in between two skeleton hordes.
Krieg and Cleez run for it at their fastest pace, skeleton hordes and more clawing at their back. Krieg ends up near the doorway. Cleez, thanks to his barbarian speed, is able to make it to the hallway.

Round 25:
World Eater: 65’
Invistis, seeing his prey escaping, casts Wall of Force on the doorway. This separates Cleez and Krieg. It also leaves Krieg alone in the room with hundreds of undead, including a lich with a vendetta against him.
Krieg uses Miracle to cast Overland Flight on himself. He flies up and towards the western door. He yells to Cleez to not worry about him and get to the garrison.
Cleez complies.

Round 26:
World Eater: 70’
Invistis laughs evilly as he casts an Empowered Greater Dispel Magic (yes, he came armed with several Greater Dispel Magic spells – 5 in all).
Krieg floats to the ground yet again and runs towards the Western Door that is being swarmed by undead hordes.

Round 27:
World Eater: 75’
Invistis, enjoying himself immensely at the moment, casts another Wall of Force in the western hallway.
Krieg attempts to push through the horde while hacking at it with one of the +3 keen throwing axes.
Hordes of all kinds surround Krieg and begin ripping into him. With his Sublime Revelry gone, the damage he takes adds up quickly.

Round 28:
World Eater: 80’
Invistis lazily flies over the melee with Krieg and casts Horrid Wilting and a quickened Magic Missile.
Krieg, out of desperation throws the axe up at Invistis. He hits, but nothing of interest happens.

Round 29:
The last thing Krieg sees are several clawing skeletal hands, a maniacally laugh lich, and a slowly disappearing black worm.

Several minutes later a breathless and alone Thunderclease arrives at a nearly empty garrison.

The first person he talks to is some aasimar he’d never seen before.

The aasimar was busy trying to pack some things up for moving to the new area. The garrison here had recently made contact with some elves elsewhere in the dungeon. The elves were apparently in bad shape and needed some assistance.
Those in charge of the garrison here had decided that splitting up the forces was not the best route. So the decision was made to combine the two groups in the elven garrison since the elves claimed to have an exit from the prison (the WLD) and the angelic forces had done so well clearing out the nearby rabble. He’d also heard something about aid from some group of adventurers, but he seriously doubted that a group of ruin-delving treasure-hunters had done anything more than call for the aid of the heavenly forces he was a part of.

This scene plays out in a cliché way that you see in most movies where the world is about to be destroyed.
Since I’m not an actor or wrote of any value beyond running and playing D&D, here’s the quick of it:
Thunderclease desperately and quickly explains to the aasimar that something big and bad is about to happen.
The aasimar listens politely, but arrogantly replies that “whatever it is, I’m sure we can take care of it in due time.”
Repeat this back and forth a couple of times before Cleez finally snaps and grabs the aasimar and says “Take me to Mythlyrian, Doj, Morkor, Kelara, or one of their friends now!”
Aasimar: “There is no need for violence. Violence and haste never end well…”
Cleez: “If you don’t take me to one of them now, then I will break the Charter rules right now, and you will be my target for it!” (Think of it as a nat 20 on his intimidate check.)

Blah, blah, blah the now soiled aasimar leads Cleez through the passages that he and his now dead companions had never traveled through.

Long story short, the first person they find is Morkor.

Morkor has considered the heroes friends since they were the ones who almost single-handedly saved the entire garrison from certain doom and saved his beloved Kelara from who-knows-what the crazy inevitables would have done to her.

Morkor: (pleased to see a good friend) “Thunderclease, it is good to see you again. Where are the others?”
Thunderclease: “Dead...”

Cleez then tells him the story while Morkor listens intently and the aasimar sneaks away.

Soon Cleez is standing and repeating the story before a host of garrison members of all kinds; some he had met before, many he had not.

Not one of them had heard anything that had been given the name “The World Eater”. The new inevitable librarian said there was no such creature listed in any of the books in the library.

A young elf stood up and related a story that his grandfather had told him many years before that had been told through several elven generations. He did not believe his grandfather’s story to be true, but the coincidences were too similar..

The story he told was very similar to the “movie” that Cleez had seen in the smoke of the candle after Krieg cast Commune, just from another point of view.

But this elf added that the creature had to be frozen in time until one day there were those that were strong enough to defeat it. He had been told that this creature had to be erased from history. There were to be no stories written of it and no one was to tell anyone that could not be totally trusted. If someone were to find out about the “World Eater” they could attempt to free it and it would resume its destruction of all life. There would even be no indication of its existence in its own prison.

And in time, it had been almost forgotten.
At least until the magic holding it frozen began to fade.

Cleez added that Krieg said it would make it to the surface in just 2 hours from when it started tunneling. That was over an hour ago.

The next thing Cleez knew he was being handed a new +2 holy greatsword, had several buffing spells cast upon him, and had been given command of a lance of foot-soldiers. And then he was led to some place he thought he might never see again, the surface world.

He breathed in a quick breath of fresh air and waited for what he always waited for, something to hack at.

An hour went by and nothing had happened.

It wasn’t like there wasn’t anyone looking for the thing. The garrison had many flying members, being angels and all. Heck even his troops could fly or even teleport. And it was still dark, not even 3am. This thing loved the dark, or so he’d been told.

Then it was spotted and the orders were given to attack before it regained its strength. But it had appeared in the worst of places.

Not far from the prison a gem-mining town, New Verdigris, had been reestablished. That was a couple of decades ago. Now the town was quite successful, and quite populated.

Although not his preferred way to travel, Cleez was teleported to near the site with the rest of his troops.

He saw the same giant black worm as before. It looked the same as the last time he had seen it. So there was hope there. But from the tunneled hole it had left, hundreds of skeletons and other undead were pouring out of it.

The hordes were pushing all of those on foot back, but Cleez instructed his soldiers what to do and they maintained a near perfect wall to keep the hordes in check.

Then a small, almost apologetic, black wave buzzed through him.
The damage the scrolls had done to the World Eater was wearing off.

The worm was healing itself, though not as quickly as before.

Every half minute, a slightly stronger black wave would erupt from within the worm. The undead nearby would heal a little and the World Eater itself would heal more and more damage. And worse, everyone that was hit by the blast took damage.

With every blast the damage and radius of the blast increased. And whenever someone died from the blast, they rose as an undead not a minute later. The more powerful the person, the more powerful the undead it would become.
This was true even for the members of the garrison.

Those newly raised undead would then go about destroying the town from the inside, or aid in the collapse of the ranks of the garrison’s forces.

Almost simultaneously, several power magic casters from across Toril appeared. Called forth by the many powerful churches, organizations, and societies that fill Toril, they teleported in and rained spell after spell down on the hordes and the World Eater.

The World Eater was not yet strong enough to heal enough damage from so many sources. So it turned around and headed back to the hole it had dug. Dawn would be coming soon and its power would be diminished.

Cleez’s troops had been holding their line well, but there had been many casualties. But now the thing had turned around and was heading back to the hole. And it was bringing with it the explosions of fireballs and other spells that were being cast to try to bring it down as soon as possible.

Cleez told his men to run; they couldn’t defend themselves against the collateral damage of that many spells. There was only one safe place for him to be right now.

Well safe isn’t the right word.

He moved himself directly in the path of the World Eater. The moment he felt the next negative energy wave hit him, he charged.

The World Eater would have thought this funny, if it had a sense of humor. So it opened its mouth to swallow the stupid dwarf. But instead the dwarf jumped in it mouth and down its gullet.

Being inside the creature with its acid and gullet damage was much less than being in melee with the thing while multiple Fireballs, Meteor Swarms, Blade Barriers, and other such things were dropping on you.

Plus he had requested that spells be put on him; Freedom of Movement and something to prevent acid damage. He received both in the form of two rings from an old elf.

While inside the thing, he went to town (figuratively of course).
Everywhere he could strike out and hit the worm.

While he was ripping it away from the inside, spellcasters were barraging it from the outside.

Just a few seconds had gone by since the Cleez volunteered for snack duty when the World Eater stopped moving.

Sensing the change, Thunderclease hacked his way out of the beast’s gullet.

He found himself standing in an eerily still and quiet area with the unmoving World Eater sticking halfway out of the large hole it had made.

(Remember fiction doesn’t have to follow the rules of D&D.)

When the World Eater died, all of the undead had dropped to ground.

The forces of good began to move again, once they were sure that the thing was dead.

EPILOGUE

The whole town of New Verdigris lay in ruins. It had never really gotten to a large size, thanks to it’s out of the way location.

Kelara: “Can you imagine the damage that thing would have done had it not been stopped in time?”

Thunderclease: “Yes, it and it minions would have spread out and killed every living thing across the land.”

Morkor: “This world owes you a debt my friend.”

Thunderclease: “I intend to collect.”

Mythlyrian: (walks up) “We have found the remains your friends’. Some of them were buried beneath that pyramid the undead had made. We will do as you ask and attempt to raise them, if they choose to return. Krieg will need a more powerful raising spell; there wasn’t much of him left.”

Thunderclease: “Probably the lich I told you about, Invistis. He took an intense dislike to Krieg for some reason. Has the lich’s body been found?”

Mythlyrian: “No. Some suspect that he wasn’t linked to the worm the same way the other undead were. He may have survived.”

Thunderclease: “He’s probably hiding under a rock right now, waiting for us to stop looking through the remains of the fight. Take me to my friends please. We have just one more week before we have to fulfill a promise.”

Kelara: “Promise? I would think you owe no one at the moment.”

Thunderclease: “I don’t think a god would see it that way. We struck a deal with Tyr; he would keep Tyrus imprisoned for a month longer while we sought the strength to defeat Tyrus. I believe we don’t even have a week to go until his renewed ice prison melts.”

Mythlyrian: “That would explain something I had wondered. None of the gods appeared during a conflict that would decide the fate of Albeir Toril. When that happens it is usually because they believe that mortals have the strength to succeed, or because they are sworn to stay out of the situation, or because they are keeping other gods at bay. I would suspect that all three conditions apply in this situation. Tyr had to prevent the gods of evil from assisting the World Eater while also preventing the gods of evil from aiding us. Had he taken any other course of action, the results may have been something much worse than the destruction of life on the planet.”

Thunderclease: “That’s too much thinking for me. Just take me to my friends. We have a dragon to defeat and a lich to find.”

----

Well I left it like that just in case we ever want to come back to it and do a one-shot game or something.

Since then things have changed quite a bit in the Cincinnati D&D group.

First there was a lot of blame going around. But unlike what you might be thinking, it was people taking blame rather than pointing the finger. Everyone thought that there was at least one thing that, had they done it differently, the whole outcome would have changed.

Basically there have been a lot of "What if?" questions.

What if the party had burned the scrolls sooner?
What if the party had not separated from one another?
What if ...
And so on.

But after a week, there have been no regrets.
We all had a good time with this module.
It's longest I've run, and probably the longest any of the players had played.
I've never had a legitimately earned 18th level PC. I've wanted one though.
Heck even Jeff said he'd be willing to play The World's Largest Dungeon 2. But I won't be running that thing.
No smurfing way man.

And on that note, we've lost a couple of players.
None of it is related to what happened at the conclusion of the campaign, but it was a good stopping point.
Jeff's life is getting too busy and Justin has to take a break from gaming as well so he can earn some Friday night tip money.
They're not gone forever, just for now.

And we started a new campaign with Dale as the DM.
Since we are kind of low on players, we're going the munchkin route. We're playing gestalt PCs. But it's just temporary. Once we get some new players we'll be reverting to single classed PCs.

Playing a gestalt PC makes me a bit of a hypocrite. I limit the players when I DM, but don't restrict myself when someone else runs.
Eh, oh well.

What's the first rule of a game?
Have fun.

And we are.
Dale is running.
Brian is playing a Fighter/Cleric (originally: Fighter)
Aaron is playing a Rogue/Warmage (originally: Roguish-type)
And I'm playing a Druid/Wizard(Conjurer) (originally: Druid)

Brian's PC is the tank.
Aaron's PC loves to sneak attack, especially with spells.
My PC makes sure that there is always something flanking our opponents.

And as for the blog, I keep changing my mind.
I originally intended it just for the WLD.
And that is pretty much the only reason anyone has ever read it. Heck it's the only reason it was listed in Knights of the Dinner Table #98.
(Yes, I own multiple copies of it =) ).
But now I wonder if I should keep it a little up to date. I'd still keep the WLD entries focused. Heck I'd probably go back through and fix some of the poor grammar.
But I wouldn't put as much work into it as I have with the WLD.
If I did, I think my wife would kill me.

But I don't know. What do you all think?

And finally, I'll be posting our opinions of the World's Largest Dungeon.
Yes, there may finally be a review of the WLD out there written by someone who has actually played rather than felt like hearing theselves speak, er...reading their own writing.

Session #48

First let me fill in a little gap from last week; I didn’t give the exact telling of the story correctly: at the end of round 7 there we no nightwalkers alive, but there were two nightwings flapping around. I’m not going back to figure out where exactly I screwed that up. It’s not worth the hassle to fix it. So I patched it with this paragraph.

Ah laziness, how I love thee.

I also forgot to bring in a couple of hordes. So I did a quick patch at the start.
And after some math double-checking, Dale realized that his Divine Sacrifice spell beat the room’s spell resistance.
And we also realized that Krieg’s Invisibility Purge was active and ruining Dariel’s Greater Invisibility.

Ok back to business.

There was no Justin this session. He’s a 21 year old fellow who works at a restaurant as a server (i.e. tips are his life). When he plays with us on Fridays, he loses a good chunk of cash. He was in a little bit of a money crunch, so he chose to work.
Bad choice of nights, but I certainly know what it’s like having no money.

So Thunderclease was played by Brian.

The session started off with our usual hour’s worth of our standard chatting.
We compare the current Bush’s presidency to that of Perot’s.
Conclusion: Perot would have been more fun.
We also discuss about the closing of Aaron and mine’s favorite BBQ restaurant, Famous Dave’s. We were both a little upset about it.

If I don’t mention what someone or something did in the combat, they either stood there and looked pretty, their actions were of minor consequence, or they just moved around and you can judge where they moved to by the pictures.

On that note...

Round 8
Key:
Both unpainted, winged figures = nightwings
Red glass beads = dread wraith cloud
Orange paper = skeleton hordes
Red paper = young adult red dragon skeleton (whose wings work)
Light blue paper = 12-headed pyrohydra skeletons (who can still breath flame).

The dread wraiths continue to swirl around the World Eater, protecting it from the attacks of our heroes. And another 8 of them sacrifice themselves to become another nightwalker.
The Nightwings attempt to dispel the Acid Fog, but both fail yet again.
The World Eater releases another negative energy wave, healing the undead in the room. It also attempts to use a Greater Dispel Magic on Krieg, but it fails to defeat Krieg’s spell resistance of 30.
Krieg shoots the last of his Sunbeams at the World Eater, hitting and doing over 60 damage to it. His acid cloud even does 12 to all in the effect. He then flies up to 30’.
The skeleton hordes (and most other hordes) rip into anything near them. They basically on miss on a natural 1 and they do damage in excess of 30 points. Senmonious find this out.
Thunderclease does some minor damage to the new nightwalker.
Valden flies up to 20’ and casts Blade Barrier right in the path of the heavily weakened dread wraith cloud. Only one dies outright.
Dariel casts Chain Lightning with the main target being the nightwalker and the secondary targets being the World Eater and his wraith cloud. Nothing drops.
Senmonious contemplates getting rid of the World Eater’s Deeper Darkness spell, but opts to keep it around when the group realizes that the 20% concealment is probably protecting them more than impeding them. So instead he flies off the ground and drink a Cure Serious Wounds potion (that healed a little more damage that he took from the skeleton hordes attack of opportunity).

Round 9

The twelve remaining dread wraiths are almost guaranteed death this round, so instead of dying they all sacrifice themselves and become one nightwalker and one nightwing.
One nightwing finally succeeds in dispelling the Acid Fog.
The other flies to, and attacks, Senmonious.
The new nightwalker moves to flank Cleez.
The other nightwalker successfully grabs Thunderclease’s +2 holy greatsword. It wins the grapple check and succeeds in destroying the weapon.
That did not help the party morale.

Dale: "Give me a T. Give me a P. Give me a K. What’s that spell?"

The World Eater, now no longer blocked from flying, flies up 30’ and casts Greater Dispel Magic on Senmonious. Several of his spells are ripped away, including Fly.
Senmonious floats back down to the ground.
Krieg flies down a short distance and uses his spear to attack a nightwalker and hurts it nicely. But it doesn’t drop.
Skeleton hordes (and other hordes) begin pouring into the room. Senmonious is the first to feel their sting.
Cleez, now weaponless, decides to try out his Thundercat claws. Although he does some damage, it’s not enough to make anything more than a dent in a nightwalker’s skin.
The red dragon skeleton already in the room takes to the air.
Valden flies up next to the World Eater and casts Heal on it. He hits it, beats its spell resistance, and it rolls a natural 1 on the save. So it takes 150 damage.
Dariel casts a purified Disintegrate at the World Eater, but fails to beat its 35 spell resistance.
Senmonious takes step back and successfully casts Holy Sword on his longsword.

Round 10
Key:
The half painted griffin = nightwing
Yellow paper = wight horde, ghoul horde, or ghast horde
Treant = nightwalker
Dice = they’re just dice

One nightwing strips Krieg of a few spells with a Greater Dispel Magic. The others attack Valden or maneuver.
One nightwalker destroys Krieg’s spear. The other attacks Cleez, but rolls two natural 1’s.
The World Eater emits another negative energy wave. Valden spots all of the apparent damage from his Heal spell being totally removed.

Everyone in despair: “Oh my god...” or “Oh crap, we’re screwed...”

The World Eater responds with a poison tail attack to Valden, and then flies 30’ straight up. Valden loses 2d6 strength thanks to the poison.
Krieg casts Mass Heal on Senmonious, Dariel, and Valden (which also cures the poison). Some undead are damaged, but none drop.

Aaron: “Welcome to the World’s Largest Graveyard.”

The skeleton hordes totally surround the ground Senmonious. This blenders of bone do almost 90 damage to him. He lives, but only with a single hit point.
Cleez continues to scratch at the nightwalker, doing only scratch damage.
The red dragon skeletons attack Valden and do some minor damage to him. But the minor damage being done to everyone will begin to add up.

During Valden’s action, there is much discussion about what to do next. At some point the divinely made flash-paper scrolls of Imprisonment and Freedom come up, but Valden decides to cast Mass Cure Serious Wounds, centered on Senmonious.

Aaron: “That stupid deity, that (smurf) said we could kill it.”

At some point the gears in Jeff’s head align properly.
Jeff: “We’re being stupid. Take both of the scrolls and burn them.”

(Apparently my intention of making the scrolls out of flash-paper to lead the party into destroying them with fire backfired on me. They thought it made the scrolls very weak and would need more protection.)

Dariel casts a Chain Lightning at the red dragon skeleton in front of him and everything near it. Nothing drops.
Senmonious is able to use Lay on Hands on himself for 90 points. Pretty impressive for a paladin huh?

Sean: “I’m still bummed about Famous Dave’s”

Round 11

Two of the nightwing begin to physically assault the flying members of the party. Their damage is small and although their draining magic abilities work, it doesn’t really matter in the long run.
The third nightwing casts Greater Dispel Magic at Dariel. Several of his spells are stripped from him, and Fly is among them. So he floats back to the ground and is an easy target for the advancing undead hordes.
One of the nightwalkers sees the staff in Dariel’s hand. So it grabs the staff and destroys it.
The other nightwalker pounds on the weaponless Cleez.
No negative energy wave/pulse is emitted by the World Eater this round. It does nothing but fly straight up this round. It is now 120’ up in a 200’ high area of the room.
Krieg flies up and out of combat and retrieves both of the divine flash-paper scrolls from their scroll case.
The skeleton hordes around Senmonious and Dariel rip into them. Sen ends the round with a mere 3 hit points and Dariel is under half.
Cleez does some more minor clawing damage. (Had the night walkers not had a damage resistance of 15, Cleez would probably have done a lot more damage.)
For this one round, a pyrohydra is able to hurt Cleez for a whole 11 damage. But for the rest of the combat, they are worthless.
Both of the red dragon skeletons continue their nickel and dime assault on Valden.

Valden casts a Flame Strike at Krieg. Krieg chooses to fail the save automatically to guarantee that both scrolls are burned.

Dale: “If this doesn’t work, you’ll hear your god snicker.”

A purely bright light fills the room.
Throughout the dungeon every single door opens.
All of the bad effects of the room except the 20 spell resistance are dissipated.
Turning will now work.
The World Eater’s negative energy pulses do not work for the time being (the party is not told this).
Every single thing in the room is hit simultaneously by to Heal spells. This causes up to 300 hundred damage to the undead.

But after the dice stop rolling, only 4 creatures drop (four of the five pyrohydras).

Dariel casts a purified Delayed Blast Fireball to hit several hordes that are near him. All are still there.
Senmonious swings his new holy sword at a horde and nets over 100 points of damage. But it is still there.

Why? Because the power of World Eater is strong. Nearly every undead in the region gained power when it awakened. They each received a bonus of 4HD and were all given maximum hit points.
This meant that a skeleton horde had 1800hp because every individual skeleton went from 1d12 hit points to 5d12 hit points (5x12x30).

Round 12

The two nightwings continue their attacks on Valden and Krieg. The third casts Greater Dispel Magic on Valden. He loses a few spells, but not Fly.

Brian: “Hey nightwing, I still have embarrassing pictures of you back when you were Robin.”

The nightwalkers, having no weapons in range they can destroy, decide to just bash Cleez.

Since round 7 Invistis had been hiding and waiting outside the room in the northern entrance. His plan was simple, wait until the party made a real nuisance of themselves to the World Eater. He would then show up and strike a bargain with the World Eater.

He also wanted revenge on Krieg.

The two scrolls being burned was just what he needed.

He casually walked into the room and cast Maximized Greater Dispel Magic on Thunderclease.

Every single spell on Thunderclease was ripped away. He stood there with no buffs and no longer Thundercat. He was now just a weaponless dwarf with no armor.

(The group objected to the spell being modified with a Maximize Spell feat, but after looking up both the spell and the feat, they accepted it. And I’m betting that is something they will use for later themselves, and then mocked me.)

The party’s situation has gone from bad to worse. They can’t use the miraculous part of Miracle because neither cleric has the spare XP. So they adopt a “Hail Mary” tactic; they believe that if they take down the World Eater the undead will die with it.

Krieg shoots another Sunbeam at the World Eater for 31 damage after saves.
The skeleton hordes rip into Senmonious and Dariel again.
Cleez has not option other than to go on full defense.
The red dragon skeletons continue to hurt Valden.
Valden converts a Miracle into a Sunbeam spell and shoots the World Eater with it and a quickened Searing Light. The Sunbeam breaks through and does 63 damage but the Searing Light does not break through its spell resistance.
Dariel has nowhere to run and hopes this Hail Mary attack will work. He defensively casts a Delayed Blast Fireball (no delay). He does nearly 60 damage to it, but it is still there.
Senmonious furiously swings at one of the skeleton hordes around him. He does another 100+ damage to it. But it does not drop.

Dale: “Four rounds of holy sword left. One round of Senmonious left.”

Round 13

All of the nightwings and red dragon skeletons harass and scratch and Valden and Krieg.
Both nightwalkers continue to punish the weaponless Cleez.

The World Eater does something the party had not expected. It flies up to the ceiling and begins biting huge chunks out of the ceiling. In a mere 6 seconds it has chewed through 5’ of rock and let them crash down to the floor below.
Krieg’s dwarven stonecunning tells him that in 2 hours the World Eater will make it to the surface world.

Krieg shoots a Sunbeam and a quickened Searing Light at the World Eater. Both fail to beat its spell resistance.
The skeleton hordes not involved in combat begin to collect the dropping rocks.
The other skeleton hordes continue to shred apart Senmonious and Dariel. Sen ends this action with -12hp and Dariel with -15.
The combat rounds begin to speed up.
Valden flies directly above Cleez and drops his sword so Cleez can use it. Valden then shoots another failed Sunbeam at the World Eater.
After several checks Cleez catches Valden’s +2 keen flaming greatsword and immediately puts it to use. He drops a nightwalker that had only 1hp, cleaves into the nearby ghoul horde, and then 5’ steps to attack the other nightwalker and takes a small chunk out of it.

Round 14

The nightwings and red dragon skeletons continue to plague Krieg and Valden.
The nightwalker attempts to grab the new weapon from Cleez but rolls a natural 1.
The World Eater burrows another 5’. It is now 10’ in.
Krieg’s Sunbeam hits and the World Eater fails its save for another 63 damage.
The last of the skeleton hordes arrive. With no new targets they can get to, they set about collecting more fallen rocks and begin piling them up just outside of the blade barrier. Some of them trample over Sen and Dariel.
Valden: another round, another failed Sunbeam.
Thunderclease attacks several times and misses with every single one.

Real time is now 11pm.
Dale: “We didn’t think we’d make it this long.”

Round 15

The nightwings and dragon skeletons continue their previous actions.

From the mass of the World Eater a black ray shoots down and hits Invistis.
Their deal complete, the lich has received some of the World Eater’s power. (Their deal was discussed telepathically – yeah that’s the ticket.)
Invistis’s eyes change from pinpricks of red light to bright points of emerald blue light.
He then casts a quickened Magic Missile at Krieg and does 15 damage and then casts Enervation at Cleez, giving Cleez 4 negative levels.
Krieg shoots another Sunbeam and does 31 damage.
Valden shoots another Sunbeam and once again fails to penetrate its spell resistance.
Cleez only hit with one attack and the walker is still standing.

Round 16

Because we didn’t keep exact track of when the round per level spells were cast, all of Dariel’s round per level spells expire at this point (otherwise they would be expiring before now – we rarely get far enough in combat to have to deal with it).

The nightwings and red dragon skeletons (snore).
The nightwalker grabs Cleez’s borrowed weapon and destroys it.
The World Eater is 20’ in.
Krieg succeeds yet again with his Sunbeam.
Valden yet again does not succeed with his last Sunbeam.
Cleez returns to full defense.

Round 17

We’ve determined that the spell Sublime Revelry is way overpowered, but in the current situation we’re ok with that.
Jeff: “Our corpses will be resisting damage quite nicely.”

The World Eater is now 25’ in.
Krieg hits the World Eater yet again with his very last Sunbeam. In spite of the party’s vocal hopes and prayers, the World Eater still lives.

Dale: “So Tyr, you pansy-ass, who are you going to get to kill your dragon now?”

Valden had been so concerned with their “Hail Mary – kill the World Eater” offensive, that he had not healed himself.
He only had 5hp remaining, so he defensively casts Heal on himself.
Unfortunately Invistis had been holding action and waiting to dispel a spell with a Greater Dispel Magic.
Invistis succeeds. Valden is left in a very bad situation.
As an afterthought, Valden casts a quickened Silence at Invistis.
But Invistis had been doubly prepared for that.
No self-respecting lich would let himself be neutered with a level 2 clerical spell. He had long ago used a Wish to render himself immune to silence effects and had a Contingency spell for Minor Globe of Invulnerability.
The Silence spell did nothing.
Cleez is still on full defense.

Round 18

All of Valden’s and Krieg’s round per level spells expire.
Valden dies when his Righteous Might spell expires and he loses the 4 bonus points of constitution, leaving him with -31hp.
The nightwings and red dragon skeletons now only have one flying target.
The World Eater is now 30’ in.

Dale: “Ooh this isn’t looking good.”
Jeff: (everyone laughs) “Where have you been the last 3 hours?”

Krieg steps 5’ next to Thunderclease and casts Prismatic Sphere on the defensive.
The nightwalker drops from the effects, and a few bits of hordes are shredded by it as well.
Invistis would have dispelled it had he not used his action screwing over Valden.
Invistis flies up and moves closer to combat.
Cleez drinks a healing potion.
The last of monsters in the region, two zombie hordes show up.

Round 19

(The rounds are moving really fast now.)

The World Eater is now 35’ in.
Krieg converts a spell to heal himself.
Invistis casts Cone of Cold on the Prismatic Sphere and removes the red shell.
Cleez reaches into Krieg’s pack and grabs a +3 keen axe of throwing.

Round 20

The World Eater is now 40’ in.
Krieg converts a healing spell on Cleez.
Invistis wants revenge on Krieg bad. He even uses a Limited Wish spell to cast Gust of Wind to remove the orange shell.

Round 21

The World Eater is now 45’ in.
Krieg casts Death Ward on Cleez.
Invistis casts Disintegrate to remove the yellow shell.

Round 22

The World Eater is now 50’ in.

Aaron: “The Prismatic Sphere was just to be annoying. Um, I invoke the 2E divine intervention rule.”
No such invocation was answered.

Friday the 13th

Soon I will add a bit of a story for what happened after round 22.
What? The campaign was over, it was almost midnight, and I think we were all ready to move on.
We had a good time and a good run with this dungeon.

Session #47

What a session!

This was one that we will probably remember for a long time.

And since this was our first session for almost a month, we were ready to game!
Ok, that’s a bit of a lie. But by 9pm, we ready to game!

We start sometime between 6 and 7pm. But as a Christmas gift to the group, Dale buys everyone pizza. So thanks to the question decisions, spell planning, and the usual bs’ing we do, we weren’t really into the groove of gaming until about 10pm.

Next week won’t be like that. You’ll see why later.

For a good part of the last week I’ve been trying to find a counter for Antimagic Field. I got a lead on a spell called Create Magic Field or something similar. But I couldn’t find it in the book I allow the players or myself to use for this campaign.

Then I thought that if they were hiding in the field, then the dread wraiths could come in and teach them a lesson. Nope. Someone online pointed out the folly there (incorporeal undead poof out while in the field).

Why was I bothering with that?
It’s because the party was still planning on finding Invistis and his phylactery prior to entering the final battle.
Now since I can’t quite railroad the party (that’s rarely any fun for players), I had to “guide” them the best I could.
I simply stated that a lich who didn’t want to be found, probably would not be able to be found.
I hoped that would be enough.

“What if they still wanted to hunt him down?”
Then they could do that all they wanted. Heck, I’d even wish them luck. Then we’d spend the night mapping out areas they hadn’t been to yet. No combats would happen, some traps would spring, and they would occasionally get a blip of evil on Senmonious’s evil radar.

Note: The party has been attributing these blips to Invistis’s scrying. They were wrong. Invistis had cut a deal with several of the wraiths left in the region. When Sen would get one of these blips, it wasn’t scrying; it was just a wraith spying on them from a safe distance. The wraiths were constantly reporting to Invistis the party’s whereabouts. Thus he could ambush the party when they were weak and avoid them at all other times.

Now had the party found a way to find him and could execute it properly to find Invistis, then I would let that happen. But any ideas they had for that, they kept to themselves.

But anyway, we stopped the last session after Invistis retreated away and placed his third key into one of the bronze doors.

They did a quick job of healing wounds and retreated 50’ to the prophecy room.

If you think about it, they were in that room not even 5 minutes before.

Next the party went about planning what spells to ask Krieg’s deity with a Commune spell.
The DM also made it clear that this would be the last such spell they would be casting anytime soon. For reasons why, see last session’s write-up for that.

They did a very thorough job planning their questions. And it seemed that the DM would get his wish of them just opening the door and get to the big fight, as their questions were asking for information about it and strengths and weakness.

Commune questions:
(As before “it” or “demon” refers the great unknown evil in the center of the region.)

1) Is it undead?
Yes
2) Is it immune to cold?
Yes
3) Electricity?
No
4) Fire?
No
5) Can it fly?
Yes
6) Can it see invisible?
Yes
7) Will is escape in 3 days without us using our key?
Yes
Ok, confession time on that one. The DM rolled some dice for when it would escape, just prior to the session (1d4 days + 1d24 hours + 2d30 minutes). Just something I though was funny.
8) Will it escape in 1 day without us using our key?
No
9) Is it more vulnerable to cold iron?
No
10) Is it more vulnerable to good-aligned weapons?
No
11) Blessed weapons?
No
12) Can it swallow us whole?
Yes.
13) Will acid resistance help us if swallowed?
Yes.
14) Is it an undead dragon?
No
15) Is it alone?
Yes.
16) Are the scrolls intended to be used inside the chamber?
Maybe
(The scrolls are the Imprisonment and Freedom divine scrolls they found a couple sessions ago.)
17) Do we have Invistis’s phylactery?
No.
I guess they thought that might have it with knowing it.
18) Does it have a breath weapon?
No
They were pretty pleased with that answer.

Then the room went dark and shadowy and the Candle of Invocation Krieg had in his backpack floated to the center of the room and lit up.
The smoke of it created an illusion of a dark place with a dimensional gate and large, but unseen, creature move through it.
The land on the other side of the gate was a beautiful farming land. He was contentedly plowing away at his land in the late evening.
Then a dark grey wall that party recognized as a negative energy field blasted him. It knocked him to the ground and few moments later he rose again. But he was dead, his skin ashen and the light of life was gone from his eyes.

Then the scene changed to that of a large scale battle, but still the creature was never seen.
They saw many soldiers of many races fighting along side heavenly beings against this thing and its hordes of undead swarming everywhere.
An elf yells out, “We can’t hope to defeat it! It’s too strong for us.”
The angel responds, “Then we must try to contain and imprison it!”
A new angel appears, “I know where...”

The scene changed once again, this time to a large, dark room. In the center was a writhing blackness whose writhing was slowing down as spellcasters finished their chanting from the edges of the room.

Then they heard the voice of Krieg’s deity, “You can defeat it.”

Then the last of the candle was consumed and the room returned to its normal state.

Dale: “So this is the purple worm from hell.”

Then the DM read a sentence from the book about if the PCs fail to defeat the worm and it makes its way to the surface, then the will be able to use the “World’s Largest Graveyard”; a module that will take the PCs from levels 21 to 40.

With that they discuss anything they might need equipment-wise before they stir this pot.
The only thing they can come up with is a Cloak of Resistance +5 for Thunderclease, mainly because they want him to make any Will saves versus mind control. A Thundercat under the control of a lich doesn’t strike them as very lovely thought.

Whiners.

But there’s a problem with going shopping at the garrison. The ruby star and the scrolls can’t leave the region. And the party certainly can’t just drop them in a convenient little hiding place while they all leave. So they give Senmonious some trade items and gold, give him some protective spells, cast Wind Walk (or whatever it is), and he flies to the garrison while the party waits for him at the region’s protective wall.

When Sen returns, he has some not so good news; the garrison is packing up and moving to the elven garrison area. Apparently, thanks to the party and the garrison, this section of the dungeon was pretty well cleared out, at least enough to not be as much of a problem as before. But the elven garrison was having some troubles, so the decision was made to the heavenly forces to the elven garrison.

That meant that the “store” was closing up shop as well. So Sen only had a limited selection of things to buy. So he bought a Cloak of Resistance +3, a Ring of Counterspells, and some various potions.

Sen wanted to find Kelara and possibly use the garrison’s library to research information about the World Eater, but he never seemed to find her.

(Read that all as “The DM feels the party has everything they need from this point on. No further help will be given.”)

Afterwards the party did a lot of planning and researching of various spells. They couldn’t find a spell that removes or reduces spell resistance, but they struck gold with Sublime Revelry.

The DM is having second thoughts about this spell though. It’s a ninth level divine spell that protects several people from mind-affecting spells and cuts melee and ranged weapon damage in half. But that is a live and learn kind of thing. There have been a lot of those in this campaign.

It’s a good thing for the party that we have had that many exceptions. Things like resting and getting your spells back after only a couple hours of activity.

So the party rested, memorized spells, and buffed up with their minute per level or better spells, and then left the prophecy room. And as expected, the paranoid party, save Krieg – but through no choice of his own, cowered under the protection of Valden’s Antimagic Field.

Since they had rested, a blanket of fear had filled the region. It was probably the result of the World Eater’s power and its weakening bonds. Sen’s Detect Evil received a blanket of faint evil everywhere.

And it was no big surprise when everyone made their fear saving throw.

They marched to the western bronze door (N158). As expected, nothing obstructed them.

Then Valden drops the Antimagic Field and the rounds per level buff spells are cast. By the time the spells are done being thrown around, everyone is large-sized except for Dariel.

When Thunderclease is about to place they into place, a negative energy wave blasts from within the room. Whether or not the wave is intentional or random is unknown, but Cleez finishes placing the star.

Small map.

The see a 200’ diameter domed room, 150’ tall at the edges, 200’ tall at its vaulted center. The outer ring is merely 3’ high with several thick 20’ tall columns with softly glowing white sphere on the tops. The inner, segmented ring is 5’ tall. The glowing red circles disappear once the door is opened, the last bit of containing magic

And on the 5’ dais in the center is a large coiling mass of translucent black flesh. It raises its great head and telepathically says “Thanks” to the party.

His appreciation didn’t last long.
Initiative was rolled.

The special qualities of the room are: intense heat, intense cold, powerful desecration that basically eliminates turning undead as an option (-14 to the turn roll, -12 to charisma when trying), and simply casting a spell requires the caster to beat a spell resistance of 20.

Round 1

(Yeah, I did a real bad job of drawing the map on the board. So sue me. I’ll try to do it better next time, ok?)

Key:
The red/brown thing at the door is Cleez.
The silvery thing on the 2”x2” base is Senmonious.
The Ral-Partha fire giant is Valden.
The barely visible human-sized thing in the red toga is Dariel.
The Ral-Partha stone giant is Krieg.
The blue-black serpentine thing is the World Eater.

(Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures, I’m running out of web space and the original pictures take up 1.25MB. I only have 5MB web space total. If anyone knows of a way I can get more for free, or if you would like me to e-mail the originals to you, just e-mail me.)

The World Eater lets out a loud rumbling howl.
As if on cue, nearly 2 dozen dread wraiths and a over dozen wraiths burst through the walls.
Krieg: Since the magical weapon he has, a scythe with an energy blade, doesn’t hurt undead, he decides to use it as a staff and casts Greater Magic Weapon on it. He then flies into the room (Fly is one of many spells that everyone has on them.)
Cleez: Sees a target and attacks it. With a single swing he hurts a dread wraith nicely. It doesn’t seem to notice.
Valden: Takes Cleez’s cue and attacks a dread wraith on the opposite side of the door entrance. He misses.
Dariel: Moves to the edge of the room and casts Firebrand. He does over 50 fire damage to half of the wraiths in the room, but nothing dies.
Senmonious: Moves to Valden’s side and helps him. He hits, but does his usual nothing damage.

Round 2

Sean (about the glass beads): “It’s like Christmas.”
Justin: “No, it’s like Heineken.”
Sean: “No, it’s like Christmas lights.”
Justin: “Christmas reminds me of Heineken.”

Key:
Red glass beads are dread wraiths.
Green glass beads are regular wraiths.

Dread Wraiths: Those not near the party fly to the center of the room. Those that are near the party attack the party and then fly to the center of the room. The damage they do is negligible thanks to Sublime Revelry and Death Ward.
Then another pack of over 2 dozen dread wraiths appear through the wall, taking the place of the originals.
Wraiths: Swarm the party and attack. Their damage is minor, but damage isn’t their job. Over another dozen appear through the walls.

Jeff: “Probably every bit of undead left in the region is coming back to get us.”

World Eater: “Die flesh beasts!” It casts Mass Hold Monster at everyone but Cleez, but it does nothing thanks to their Freedom (or Freedom of Movement, whichever) and Sublime Revelry spells.
Krieg: Does a full attack at a nearby wraith. It takes over 100 damage before it dies.

Jeff: “We’re wasting our time. Killing all of these things is pointless. We need to move here and take this thing out (the World Eater).”

Cleez, Valden, and Senmonious: Abandon their attacks on the nearest wraiths and dread wraiths and flies their full distance to get as close as possible to the World Eater.
Dariel: Thinking that standing alone in a hallway is a bad idea, casts Greater Invisibility on himself and then flies up and out of the hallway.

Round 3

Key:
Blue glass beads are dread wraiths as I was running out of red ones.

Dread wraiths: The inner ring of them get right next to the World Eater and change into a swirling black cloud of protection completely around the World Eater. They are still wraiths, but the party now must get past them before they can hurt the World Eater.
The newest dread wraiths get closer to the center of the room. And they are replaced by the last wave of dread wraiths to come.
Wraiths: They continue to swarm the nearest party member to harass and attack. And even more of them appear through the walls.

That is the last wave to come of all of the wraiths. In total there are 40 wraiths and 72 dread wraiths.

Aaron: “You’re not bringing in the stuff we decided not to kill are you?”
Sean (smiling) “Now would make you think that?”

World Eater: Casts Haste on all of the nearest undead. It then flies up 30’ and its shell of dread wraiths follow.
Krieg: Casts Ray of Light (or whatever the spell it is that makes a lightning bolt of light) at the World Eater and its mass of dread wraiths.
In doing so he receives 6 attacks of opportunity from nearby wraiths. And what proves to be the theme for the night, the DM can’t even roll a double digit in all 6 rolls.
So Krieg gets the spell off but does not manage to beat the 35 spell resistance the World Eater has, so only several dread wraiths take the damage.
Krieg then casts a quickened Searing Light at the World Eater and successfully beats it spell resistance for 35 points of damage.
Cleez: Attacks at a nearby dread wraith, and misses 4 out of 5 attacks.

Jeff: “Ok, well I might regret this...”
Justin: “Look at me; I don’t regret anything I’ve done.”
We all laugh.

Valden: Afraid the World Eater will escape, flies up and gets as close to the World Eater as the dread wraith cloud/shell will allow and casts Antimagic Field. This causes Valden and the World Eater to fall to the ground as both of their Fly spells are suppressed.
Additionally the area of the wraith shell covered by the Antimagic Field is open.
Valden is only slight dinged from the fall, but is otherwise fine.
For now.
Dariel: Flies higher and closer to the combat and casts Delayed Blast Fireball (no delay) to an area outside of the Antimagic Field. The World Eater and several dread wraiths take 15d6 fire damage.
Kavilljor Ur-wrathi: Mohrgs riding wyvern zombie mounts, 3 from the west and 2 from the south, fly into the room. Then the powerful dark magic of the World Eater converts them into ghostly knights on horseback called Kavilljor Ur-wrathi.
(A thanks goes out to Quillion for these guys...too bad I didn't do them justice.)
Senmonious: Does a full attack on a dread wraith and kills it.

Round 4

Key:
White squares of paper are Kavilljor Ur-wrathi.
The upside-down 5” mirror is the Antimagic Field.

Dread wraiths: The second wave of dread wraiths joins the cloud. Eight of the dread wraiths within the cloud join together to create a nightwalker that appears near Sen.
Nightwalker: Moves to and attacks Senmonious, but the DM rolls a 2 and misses.
Wraiths: Continue their objective to harass the party. The most damage they seem to do is 1-3 points. It seems almost not worth to roll their attacks.
World Eater: Valden is now an unprotected-by-magic and scrumptious looking meal. He bites at Valden and easily hits doing 8d8+25 damage. He then gets a free grapple and handily wins. On its next round it gets to swallow Valden for free.

Jeff: “I didn’t quite think this through.”
Justin: “That’s why I’m not a spellcaster. You never make the mistake of saying, ‘Oh shit, I killed the enemy!’”

Krieg: Casts Acid Fog above the World Eater. The intent is deal a little acid damage and use the movement slowing aspect of the spell to ruin any further attempts by the World Eater to escape by flying away.
Cleez: He’s surrounded by 5 damaged regular wraiths, and by the end of his full attack action, he’s only surrounded by 1.
Valden: Dismisses the Antimagic Field. No longer suppressed, his Freedom of Movement spell kicks in and frees him from the World Eater’s maw. He gets as far away as his little giant dwarf legs let him.
Dariel: Casts Firebrand again. He also modifies it with his Purify Spell feat (does no damage to good-aligned creatures, does extra damage to evil-aligned creatures). And he also has a Rod of Greater Maximize Spell, which he also adds to the spell. So just about everything evil in the room takes 120 points of fire damage (DC23 Reflex save for a mere 60), while the party is immune to it.
Many regular wraiths go poof.
A couple dread wraiths in the cloud do the same.
Even a Kavilljor Ur-wrathi and its mount bite it. It never hurt anyone. It never had the opportunity to.
(At this point it is almost not worth talking about damage, just whether something dies or not.)

Dale (as Senmonious): “I love my little elven buddy.”

Kavilljor Ur-wrathi: Three charge Valden and one charges Cleez. As they approach, the whole party (not Sen, the paladin) has to make 4 DC24 saves versus fear or face the cumulative effects of it. Out of 16 rolls, 14 saves are made. Only Cleez and Dariel are shaken. Three miss, but one crits Sen, but the damage just rolls off of him thanks to the magic buffing everyone has.
Senmonious: Smites the nearby nightwalker and hits it with his other attacks. But the DR15 it has reduces all of the damage to a minor scratch.

Round 5

Big black nightwalker mini is actually a nightwalker. Go figure.

Dread Wraiths: The last of them join the cloud while 8 join to make another nightwalker and 4 join to make a nightwing.
Nightwing: Flies away from the Acid Fog and up out of melee.
Nightwalkers: The newest one goes after Cleez. The other one attempts to disarm Senmonious. It almost succeeds. Had it succeeded, next round it would broken Sen’s sword. Oh boy did he not like that.
Wraiths: Only 6 of them left, and they’re really low on hp.
World Eater: Low on options at the moment, it casts Haste again to the newest undead.
Krieg: Shoots another ray of light (lightning bolt thing) through the mass of undead. It does some nice damage, but nothing drops.
Skeleton Horde: from the southern hallway emerges a skeleton horde.
Cleez: Not liking the idea of losing his +2 holy greatsword, exclusively attacks the nightwalker. He once again misses 4 out of 5 attacks.
Valden: Feeling a bit trigger happy, casts Mass Heal. He places it where it will heal 180 damage to Senmonious and himself and will do 180 points of damage to undead within range (90 if they make a will save). This drops 10 dread wraiths, 1 Kavilljor Ur-wrathi and mount, and one mount of a Kavilljor Ur-wrathi.

Jeff: “I should have memmed more than one of those.”

Dariel: Repeats the nuclear blast from last round. Ten more dread wraiths in the cloud die, a Kavilljor Ur-wrathi and mount dies, and the Kavilljor Ur-wrathi that lived through the Mass Heal didn’t live through the nuke.
Senmonious: Attacks and finishes off the nightwalker. He did very little damage to it really, but it was low on hp thanks to the Mass Heal and Firebrand.

Round 6

Key:
The unpainted Ral Partha griffin is a Nightwing.
The orange square of paper is a skeleton horde.

Dread wraiths: Give birth to another nightwing.
Nightwings: The new one flies up to its brother. The first one attempts a Greater Dispel Magic on the Acid Fog spell. It fails horribly.
Nightwalker: It attempts to disarm Cleez and fails.
Because the DM can’t roll for smurf!
World Eater: Its skin shudders as it releases a negative energy wave. The wave heals 8d8 damage to the undead in the room. The party’s Death Wards reduce the damage to 0, but they still have to make a saving throw. On a natural 1, the Death Ward is ripped away. It once again Hastes any new nearby undead.
Krieg: Sick of everyone else dropping undead throws another Ray of Light into the mass of undead, but none drop. He follows it up with a quickened maximized (from a lesser rod) Searing Light. He rolls a natural 1 on his attack roll.
Skeleton Hordes: A new one enters the room the east. The other moves towards the center of the room.
Skeletal Pyrohydra (12 heads): Enters the room. The party notices that its vertebrae are connected by iron. Something they’ve seen before.

Aaron: “No more being nice to the DM’s environment. We’re killing everything we come across from now on.”

Cleez: Attacks his nightwalker and hits with 3 attacks, doing 191 points of damage (146 of DR15). It doesn’t die.
Valden: Joins Sen’s side in attacking the nightwalker.
Dariel: Drops his last nuke (no more components for the spell, and he’s used all 3 daily charges from the rod). He drops one of the Kavilljor Ur-wrathi and a Nightwing.
Senmonious: Attacks the nightwalker but doesn’t drop it.

Round 7

Key:
The light blue square is the skeletal pyrohydra.
The treant is nothing. It’s just in an inconvenient spot.

(If you're wondering why I'm using squares of paper instead using a different but similar figure, it's because this combat is confusing enough, paper helps.)

Dread wraiths: Give birth to another nightwalker.
Nightwing: Another attempt at dispelling the Acid Fog. Another natural 1 by the DM.
Nightwalkers: The new one goes after Sen and scratches him. The other attempts to disarm Cleez and fails again.
World Eater: Casts Deeper Darkness around itself.
Krieg: Throws another ray of light at the nightwalker before it can destroy Cleez’s sword. The nightwalker dies. Krieg rejoices because he finally got something.
Skeleton Horde: One attacks Sen and can only miss on a natural 1. Surprising the DM doesn’t roll that and does a whole 8 points of damage after all spells are taken into account.
The other horde moves closer to the combat.
Cleez: Free of nearby combatants, he attacks into the wraith cloud. He hits several times and does a lot of damage, but none drop.
Young Adult Red Dragon Skeleton: Walks in through the western hallway.
Valden: Attacks the last Kavilljor Ur-wrathi and drops it.
Dariel: Casts another no delay Delayed Blast Fireball into the mass around the World Eater. Nothing dies.
Sen: Flies away from the melee and casts Divine Sacrifice and fails to beat the spell resistance of the room. He lost 10hp and a spell and gained nothing.

It was then 2am.
It seemed like a good point to stop, so we did.
Although the DM and Dale wanted to continue on, we were in the minority.

Next session we start where we left off.
Invistis makes an appearance.
And the DM redraws the battle map so that the representation of the circular room looks like a circle.

Until then!
